THE death of an old and respected resident of the Alma Park district in Johann Heinrich Kotzur took place on Thursday morning. Deceased was a pioneer of the Alma Park district, taking up his selection when all was scrub and undergrowth, from which, with determination and perseverance, he progressed to a most successful far- mer. He leaves, besides a widow, a family of four sons, Traugott, John, Gotthilf and Ben Kotzur, all of Alma Park, and six daughters, Mrs. W. Lubke (Henty), Mrs. A. Schlenker (Ryan), Mrs. A. Beck (Albury), Mrs. Wegener (Walla Walla), Mrs. O. Seidel and Mrs. C. Seidel, of Walbundrie. A son and daughter predeceased him. Deceased was a son of the late Martin Kotzur, and was born at Hochkirch, Victoria, on July 14, 1860. His youth was spent at Gerogery, from whence he came to settle in Alma Park. Rev. Stolz officiated, and after a short ser- vice at the deceased's home, the larg- est cortege ever seen at Alma Park moved to the burial ground. Rev. Stolz based his German address on Bev. 14, 13, and his 'English - address on Phil. 3, 17. The speaker said that Advent time was always a happy time, as it was the approach of Christmas, when the children were always happy, and they in turn brought happiness to the hearts of the elders. But the loss of one who had been dear to all must bring sorrow to the widow, the children and the community. The life of de- ceased was an inspiration to all. As he was in his home life so also were his endeavors to the community. He was appointed layreader, together with the late Mr. J. Lieschke, over 50 years ago, and last September he was the recipient of an address from the con- gregation for long and faithful service, to mark the 50th anniversary of his induction. At this occasion he gave, what happened to be, his final address, in which he implored the young not to forget their duty to the church and read the Bible daily. He helped to build the first church and helped to en- large it — and as the congregation kept growing he took an active part in the building of the edifice. Through all the years he held regular lay-reading services when no pastor was in atten- dance. From October his health began to fail. Deceased attained the age of 73 years 5 months. Ho was a brother of Mr. W. Kotzur (Wagga), Martin Kotzur (Alma Park), Fred Kotzur (Goulburn) and Ernest Kotzur (Henty), Mrs. C. Wolter (Henty), Mrs. P. A. Lieschke (Alma Park) and Mrs. G. Grunow.
